June 27 - Train to Machu Picchu and at Machu Picchu

Several years ago a landslide blocked the train to MP trapping many touristas. It is a spectacular trip and an important part of the Machu Picchu experience.

View from the vista dome.

Aguas Caliente where the train stops for the Machu Picchu tourists and where many spend the night.

On the path to the Inca draw bridge. It is a pretty long fall to the bottom here.

That is the draw bridge in the center of the photo.

Wayna Picchu, high above the main Machu Picchu ruins, where only the intrepid venture. David claims to have climbed it years ago. I, on the other hand, admit to having climbed up part way, also  years ago and then returned to safer ground without having reached the top.

The temple of the Sun.

A stone worshiped by the Incas.

Vizcacha near the temple

Classic double jamb doorway.

Possible burial site under the temple

Photos of the Inca bath system. It would appear as if the Inca bathed in the  upper  bath and his nobles bathed in the water he used farther down in their own baths.

Back in Aguas Caliente for the night. The roaring river that cuts right through the town.
